Public outreach and education
As part of its education and outreach role, WDC-MARE intends to provide information about marine sciences research for public use. This will consist of multidisciplinary data and information usefull for a public understanding of oceanographic, geoscientific, and biological processes in the oceans. We will present a photo archive from marine research expeditions and from photos of the ocean floor, graphics to understand important processes related to the genesis of the oceans like platetectonics or sedimentation and oceanographic models to learn about ocean currents and its role in global climate.
WDC-MARE has a strong connection to leading marine research institutes, all providing material for public outreach:
- click & learn at AWI http://www.awi.de/en/discover/click_learn/interactive/glaciology_for_beginners/
- Track a research vessel http://www.awi.de/en/infrastructure/ships/polarstern/where_is_polarstern/
- Work with an oceanographic atlas on your computer http://www.eWOCE.org
- Ozean Online (in german) http://www.ifm-geomar.de/index.php?id=ozean-online&L=1
We recommend to use OceanPortal of the IOC as a comprehensive resource for ocean information.
